It was books that made me feel that perhaps I was not completely alone. They could be honest with me, and I with them. Is 'fat' really the worst thing a human being can be? Is 'fat' worse than 'vindictive', 'jealous', 'shallow', 'vain', 'boring' or 'cruel'? Not to me. Stories can conquer fear, you know. They can make the heart bigger. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us. Do not fear failure but rather fear not trying. The best way to cheer yourself is to cheer somebody else up. Isn't it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet? There is no mistaking a real book when one meets it. It is like falling in love. We are each our own devil, and we make this world our hell. Books are for people who wish they were somewhere else.
